Divide students into small groups and assign each group a different book in the series. Have them brainstorm a list of questions they have about the book based on the cover and excerpt. Come together as a class to share their questions and generate a list of predictions for the story.
Lesson 2: Character Analysis and Setting Exploration
Now that students have a basic understanding of the series, delve deeper into the characters and setting. Guide them in identifying the main characters and their relationships to each other. Encourage them to describe the physical and personality traits of each character.
Next, explore the setting of the story, Spiderwick Estate. Discuss the time period and geographical location. Have students draw a map of the estate, labeling important locations such as the manor house, the barn, and the woods. Encourage them to describe the atmosphere and mood of the setting.
