Stranger Things Season 2 Episode 1, titled "MadMax," picks up a year after the events of the first season. The town of Hawkins, Indiana, is still reeling from the aftermath of the Demogorgon's attack, and the kids are still dealing with the trauma of what they experienced.
The episode opens with a flashback to the night of the Demogorgon's attack. We see the kids running through the woods, trying to escape the creature. Eleven is using her powers to close the gate to the Upside Down, but she is struggling. The Demogorgon is closing in on her, and it looks like she is about to be killed.
But then, Eleven's powers suddenly surge, and she is able to close the gate. The Demogorgon is defeated, and the kids are saved. However, Eleven is left unconscious, and she is taken to the hospital.
A year later, Eleven is still in the hospital. She is in a coma, and the doctors are not sure if she will ever wake up. The kids are still haunted by the events of the previous year, and they are struggling to move on with their lives.
One day, Mike, Dustin, Lucas, and Will are playing in the woods when they come across a strange creature. The creature is small and furry, and it has a long tail. The kids are curious about the creature, and they decide to follow it.
The creature leads the kids to a junkyard. In the junkyard, the kids find a group of people who are working on a strange machine. The people are led by a woman named Kali, and she tells the kids that they are building a machine that will allow them to travel to the Upside Down.
The kids are excited about the possibility of traveling to the Upside Down. They believe that Eleven may still be alive, and they hope that they can find her and bring her back home.
The kids join Kali's group, and they begin working on the machine. However, they soon realize that Kali and her group are not what they seem. Kali is a dangerous woman, and she has her own plans for the Upside Down.
The kids must find a way to escape from Kali and her group. They must also find a way to stop Kali from using the machine to travel to the Upside Down.
